An Awesome Contest

31 Mar

I’m really looking forward to creating a submission for this awesome contest over at LandCameras.com. Here’s to shooting reproduction style!

If you own an official Polaroid camera manual from the 60′s or 70′s you’ve undoubtedly noticed the mod ladies stiffly posing for product shots. With perfectly manicured hair and immaculate nails these ladies were not only fine as wine, but they’re also a window into the fashion of the day.

If any of you have seen the hit series Mad Men and salivated over the “hired help”, this is your chance to step into those heels and take some notes! Check your sexism at the door, and lets have some playful fun with 1960′s and 70′s style. LandCameras.com is sponsoring the first ever photo contest based on a series of camera manuals! We’re looking to have you reproduce some of the classic images with a modern (or as close as you can) twist.

There will be two categories, “Original Reproductions” and “WOW! My Manual Didn’t Have That Photo!” The WOW category obviously is where you can let your creativity run wild. Anything goes, but please be (somewhat) tasteful and respectful.

  • 1:1 photo replications. Get as close as you can to the original photo
  • Submissions are via our flickr group – Tag all photos with ‘Ladies of Polaroid’
  • We’ve supplied some photos, but if you have an original you’d like to use, feel free
  • Deviations from original photographs will be allowed if they are in the same spirit as the originals
  • You may use any medium – not limited to analog or Polaroid.  Digital + manipulations are ok
  • Please name your models

  • Contest runs from April 1st – May 31st
  • Judges will vote on submissions with the following in mind
  • Hair
    Clothing
    Staying true to the original
  • Check back for contest rule updates regularly
  • Submit any questions, or clarifications needed toLadiesOfPolaroid@landcameras.com
  • Judges will NOT vote upon:

Camera model, if you don’t have that specific camera don’t worry
Most photos are low quality scans from manuals, worry about the photo not the photo quality

1st Prize: “Reproduction” category

1st Prize: “WOW! My Manual didn’t have that photo!” category

More prizes to be announced! Would you like to help us sponsor this contest? Want to help? Send LadiesOfPolaroid@landcameras.com an email!

Here is a starter set of photos. Remember you can use your own manuals!

Dear readers, please take note of the weird lines running across this photo. This is what happens if you don’t do a good enough job cleaning your rollers!
